Default motor maintenance question

Just purchased 1999 Pantera 28 with twin 502's. I am having plugs, crankcase and drive oil changed and would apreciate and other recomendations or suggestions as to service that should be performed.

Thanks,
joe

How many hours on the motors? I would change the seawater pump impellers and fuel filters just to be safe.

If you just bought the boat your on the right track, What I always recommend is to start at square one and do all the services that way you know where you are!!!! dont forget the sea water pump, check belts hoses ,ect basicly do 100 hr service then you have a good starting point and can get on a good schedule...... good luck and congrats on the new boat

As already stated, alignment and grease the two zerks on the coupler real good until you get a little grease throwing out, very important, otherwise you have to pull the motor to replace a coupler. Very Very important!!!

Pull drive and grease two zerks on the drive shaft universal and grease zerk on outside of outdrive. Install new drive seal gaskets

Stock merc power steering has two zerk fittings as well.

If your missing any fins on the impellers, be sure to find the missing pieces, most likely stuck in the aft of the oil cooler.

Clean flame arrestor.

Distributor cap and rotor inspection

Power steering fluid level

Spray engines down with a good lubricant like CRC or equivelent, keeps them looking nice and prevents rusting with all the heat and moisture.

Best of luck to you!!!!

Spend ~$30 for a Mercruiser service manual and follow it letter to the law. They detail what to do and when to do it.
