Twin inboard to single Conversion?

Twin inboard to single Conversion?
I have a 1978, 23' Formula with twin 350 chevy. It needs repowering. I am thinking of convertiong it to a single 350 for economy of the whole process. Any thoughts? Anyone done this? Thanks

A lot of work and a lot of expense to do a conversion like that.
And don't think for one minute you will double your mileage with only one engine
.
You'll loose 1000 lbs but one engine will be working a lot harder
If it still runs reasonably well , sell it and get something different. It will be a whole lot easier and cheaper in the long run.

I agree with Magnum27,
A single 454MPI, 502MPI or a 496 will do your classic Formula to a realy nice boat. With friends and knowledge you will do this oparation easy.

Does anyone know what will or will not fit from a small block
conversion besides the exhaust, and intake? Are the drive units the interchangeable, on cars the trannys will interchange
from small to big block. I thought I would make new motor mount, cut new hole for the (centered) drive location, fill the old holes in the transom and be pretty much in business. What am I missing? Thanks again! I would prefer a Big Block
in everything!

You probably have Alphas, you don't want them with a big block. Not much else other than the wiring harness, maybe starter and alt., and if you rejet the quadrajet its the same. Expensive conversion for a 27 year old boat. You'll never get your money out of it.

Dont know where you are from but converting a twin to single is sacreligious if I can spell that. Ocean boats should have twins (separate electrically / fuel / etc ) for reliability and converting a twin 2 a single will significantly reduce the value of your boat. If you are a lake guy you really dont need the extra reliability but differential thrust from a twin shure makes docking and putting on the trailer alot easier. Your boat may be old but dont ruin it. Just my thoughts....TJ
