I've been through numerous props can't seem to find the right ones.
Wellcraft Excalibur Eagle 42'. boat is very heavy 11500 dry probally about 15000 lbs loaded with fuel and water. trs drives
running built up 454's with prochargers at 5lbs of boost
1. started with orginal 21p 3 blade props hit rev limiters
2. then went with 27p 3 blade props hit about 3000 rpms then seemed to blow out props, just over rev'ed each time, couldn't get much speed (is it possible transmissions where slipping)
3. then went to 25p 3 blade cleaver racing props would not move boat at all just went right into over rev.
4. now running 23p 3 blade runs ok but still hits rev limiter near wot, Still running the same speed as as orginal stock 454 HO's with the 21 pitch props. 58 mph gps at 5000 rpms. doesn't make much sense but true. maybe getting more slippage don't know
Going to try 24p 4 blade next week and I have a set of 25p 3 blade coming in. Was wondering if a large 28p, or 30p or 32p cleaver prop would work, would it move a heavy boat, the 25's wouldn't do anything. Is a 4 blade prop better for a heavy boat. I need something that will lift boat out of water and give more speed. I've spent a awful lot of money for nothing, if I can't get more speed out of these motors.

24 P... The big cups will lift you up and out..and this thing digs in...it's an offshore prop as you may know and tuned for top end. It loves TRS drives too. :D

hopfully the 24p 4 blades s.s. will be in this week. Purchased them on e-bay. The season is almost over here, its been another long year with this boat tring to get it to perform right.

You need 4 blades no question. 3 blade props slip too much on a big, heavy boat. 24 may be too much pitch, but you'll be close.

YEs, 4B props are the way to go with your set up. You simply need the additional blade to help carry the length and weight of the boat.

Dave,when I first procharged my boat I tryed several different props,it would cavitate a 25 and 27 pirch 3 blade at just about any speed,I ended up using a 26 pitch 4 blade merc when I ran 6 psi of boost and a 28 pitch 4 blade that was tuned down slightly to a 27 1/2 pitch when running more boost. Your boats heavy and has alot of torque now,don't waste your time with a 3 blade prop,it just won't work. At least it is still together,sounds like your on the right path,Smitty

thanks Smitty I'll keep looking for 4 blade props on e-bay. You get alot of good deals on 3 blade props, you can usually buy them from 400 to 600 a set. a couple I purchased where like brand new. 4 blade props are a little harder to find but they come up now and then.

Just be careful buying off of e-bay. I have had alot of clients not get what they paid for this year. A LOT OF JUNK out there. Make sure that there are no other stampings on the propeller other than the original manufacturers stampings. Additional stampings are a sign that the propeller has been serviced! :eek:
