Florida Engine builder

I am looking at a boat that has two 496, 525hp motors that were built by Wheeler Motorsports of Jacksonville Florida. Does anyone know anything about Wheeler?

Thanks,

Pete and his guys at Wheeler seem to be very good people. They do a fair amount of Drag Race stuff. He advertizes in National Dragster a bunch. They buy a fair amount of parts, and we don't ever have any issues with them.

I am glad this Thread came up .. I am in Jacksonville and have been looking for a shop ... One question would be would it be ok to use a shop like this that does mostly Automobile motors or do you need to find a "marine" only shop ? m

I would definately recommend using someone with marine experience. I let a (primarily) car company do my engines and it could not have gone worse. I kept blowing things up, losing oil pressure for no reason, etc etc. The motors came out and went back in 4 times in 1 summer. When I sent it to a real marine mechanic (JC Performance) he told me that the compression was set at 10.3, and should have been somewhere around 9.5 in a marine application. I would have had to use 103 octane, which was never mentioned by the origonal people. Marine engines, especially high performance marine engines, run in a much different environment than high performance automobile engines, and the person that does them needs to know what their doing. I would use a marine engine builder, just my .02
