Default Banging sound in engine

This is my first time ever posting a question. Here's the story. Have a 39 cig 1981 540 ci with BDS blowers x2. Running on saturday with no problems. Took a break at Kelly's then off agian to Put-N-bay cruising at 3500 rpm and noticed oil temp a little higher then port side. Then went to punch it coming into the bay and heard a clunk. Sounded like a tin can bouncing around right under the blower. Shut down engine and limped home. I also had the intention of pulling the engine this winter anyway because of blow by and bad leak down of cylinder 5. Any ideas on what might of happened. Thanks for your time.

This is probably not your problem, but I had a similar situation back in July. My engine got lean because of a weak electric fuel pump. #1 cylinder combustion chamber got real hot and dropped an exhaust seat. That thing broke apart and bounced through every cylinder. It sounded like a tin can bouncing around under the carb.
I rebuilt the engine and I`m back on the water.

GOOD LUCK !

That's the sound of money trying to get out of your wallet.
