Don

I just built some Whippled motors this year.

9:1 JE 4.500 flat tops
Crane 731 cam .598 .610 112 center
Edelbrock aluminum heads done by Jim Valako
Old side mount Whipples at 8 lbs boost

Power 775 at 5400
Torque 845 at 4000
No less than 800lbs from 3000 to 4800
Fuel pressure was 52 lbs

We made a pull to 6000 rpm and hit 825 hp, but I don't want to spin them that high.

Personnally I think that cam is too big. Dustin also made the same recommendation to me. I would go with the 741 cam.

Also going with a big cam and way more power has done 2 things. I have been stopped for noise twice and I have blown a drive due to bigger power. Keep both of these in mind. Also with the big cam it will be tough around the docks when it is idling at 750 rpm !!!

Good luck !!!

P.S. make sure to have the ECU's reprogammed with the motors in the boat and running on the water. We set them on the dyno and they ran bad in the boat. 3 hours in the boat and they run awesome. Give me P.M. if you have any questions.

Smitty Who did your reprogramming??? I have been trying to find some one local but I'm still looking I would like to buy the programing so I could tune it in or tweak it if I have to rather then sending them back to Dustin

What were the difference in the dyno set up and in the boat as far as tuning the ECM???

I know I will have drive problems I blew up two drive this year
I do have mufflers and turn down all ready How loud is your boat did you do a decibel reading??

Tyler Crockett is who set up the ECU's
He is in Ruby Michigan. My boat ran really rich on the low end and lean on the top end once the motors were in the boat. Trust me-- Take the time/effort/money to do them in the boat. It will be well worth it. I drove 6 hours one way to get to Tyler. I live in Chicago. I am not aware of anybody that you can buy the programming from. I hear that Merc keeps a tight leash on who can tune MEFI3 computers as they are the ones who provide the software to Tyler, Dustin and a few other guys out there.

I have CMI headers and it is 106 at idle with no mufflers. When I am at full throttle it is probably like 140 or better.
