Default oil pressure cut off sw.

Can someone please explain how the low pressure cut off system works. I wondered if it trips a relay or grounds out the trigger to the spark or what. The reason I ask is today I was runnning hard and just as I was pulling back on the stick the engine died. Kinda freeked me out . Anyway there is more. The valve cover cap popped off and through oil everywhere (about a quart). I was already almost a quart low to begin with. I checked everything out and refired. Good oil pressure and it ran fine. Do you think I starved it for oil momentary? Thanks for you help.

Does it just set off the alarm or actually kill the motors?

kills the fuel to the motors so that the motors wont self destruct with lack of oil

Thanks! I'll print the wire diagram and check out what I have. I have a holly domanator. Seems like if the fuel pump shut off I could still run the fuel out of the bowls for a little while, long enough to do major damage. I would think it would kill electronics.

If you were a qt. or more low and decelerated, thereby moving what you had in the pan forward and away from the pump pick-up; that could cause a momentary loss of pressure that would trigger the fail-safe kill device. --- Jer

My opinion, I have warning alarms and indicator lights if the presure drops below a set point, with an automatic cut off, you could be killed if you really need your motor and it shuts off. Think of coming in through a narrow channel in heavy seas with strong current, the boat goes at an extreme angle that causes low oil presure, the engine shuts off, the heavy seas put the boat into the rock jetty before you can get it restarted......

sure will do if you let me know what motor you have im send you a copy of yours that is just a standard system .......

bertram you are right but a blown motor wont do you any good either...as for extreme angle if your on thatextreme of an angle you better jump!!!!!
