Stainless Marine exhaust/annodes

Stainless Marine exhaust/annodes
While disassembling my manifolds, each one had a what looked like an anode on the end of the pipe plugs that plug off the unused bungs. Never seen them in my Gils. Just curious if that is what they are and are they needed.

Re: Stainless Marine exhaust/annodes
they certainly are anodes & yes they are very important in stainless manifolds ... dont forget to check these little buggers regulary.....when they wear out your manifold starts corroding.....

Hold it there, Maverick! Try to keep up with the wagon train. We formerly supplied zinc anodes in our Aluminum manifolds. Discovered that a zinc in a fresh water filled manifold, whether operated in fresh water or just flushed, IS NO LONGER AND ANODE, IT IS CATHODE, AND THE MANIFOLD IS PROTECTING IT! Holy smoke! Stopped using them. Stopped using hard anodized aluminum fittings. We now use high tech glass filled plastic fittings. If you would flush the system once in a while, it might outlive the engine.

Ok, so do not use the anode fitting. When I removed all the fittings, the 2 bungs at the bottom of the manifolds are corroded at the threads, that I was able to poke a screwdriver thru the bung right near the weld. I think the fittings themselves are chrome plated brass. Those ok to use? The supply fitting will be the plastic Merc tee with the blue drain plug. BTW,these will be used on my freshwater boat. I'm under the impression these were fresh water use when I bought them. The inside of the manifolds themselves look fine, it's just the bungs. Thank god
Right now I have stripped the powdercoating off and will have to cut off the lower bungs, weld on a new one for the one I'm going to use as the supply port and weld the remaining hole shut. Then repowder coat. Just the 2 lower ones are bad, the upper ones are fine.
Sound like I'm going to be alright?
Thanks

Re: Stainless Marine exhaust/annodes
I'll take you up on the fittings now that we have a plan.
4 manifolds, so
8 plugs
4 straight manifold outlets (for the hose)
Thanks again
