I'd say it would be worth less than a stock HP500, and certainly easier to sell with the HP.

I agree, I'd rather buy the boat without power if it's not stock power.

Pretty sad that the only manufactuers anyone really considers "stock power" is Mercury or Volvo. What about Ilmor? What about Sterling? Would a Fountain with 625 Ilmors be worth as much as a 600hp Merc powered boat? How about a Fountain with 1075 Mercs as a posed to 1000hp Sterlings, or Bob Teagues? I would guess there are some small exceptions to the rule but I would have to agree that I would prefer Merc power in a used boat to any others.

BADKACHINA, I agree with your statements. However, Merc and to some degree Volvo are the basically the only known marine motors known by the general public not so up to date on the others. And more than likely, there are more 'general public' buyers.
I would still want a Merc motor over any other make myself.

I would agree with all the other posts. The boat is worth less with any other power than stock Merc. Unless you hold out for that special buyer who is hot for what you have. For the general public service is the real issue. If something breaks who locally can work on it.

Thanks for the input, guys. I was thinking the motor was not going to be a strong selling point. Too bad, it has run flawlessly from day one, 90 mph.
