Metal on drive plug magnets
SubscribeI drained my drive oil (Bravo 1) and had metal fines on the drain plug magent and the vent plug magnet. Just enough to cover the magnet tips.
Is this normal? I can't remember if I've ever had metal dust on the top vent plug magent? I use merc drive oil. The oil was dark, less green then when it's new. No metal in the oil just on the plug magnets. 40 hours since last change. Again, the metal on the magnets resembles dust, not chunks, not shavings, but fine dust, and it totally covers the magents of both plugs.
Just can't remember if I've ever had it on the top plug or not. Do I have problems?

That seems normal. I have had much wrose. In fact i have never changed oil in one that didnt have some dust or slight sluge on it.
Yes.. that is normal to find "dust on the magnets" Rub it between your finger and thumb and if you feel any chunks, at all.. then problems are on the horizon.. From what you describe, you should be ok..
Hope this helps!

Yeah. Of those 40 hours, most were at 4000-4500 rpms and I bet at least 5 or 6 were at WOT. I figure your going to have a little metal grinding off when you run hard, right?Originally Posted by GOODT
Its normal but you might want to consider changing your drive fluid a little more often.
