They will fit in most battery holders, but the ones designed for Optimas are a better fit.

Correction :D

I took my load tester and checked out my batteries on the boat this week. One blue top has died, 3 years and eleven months old. Replacement was $149 at autozone. Blue top 34MD.

I once heard (from someone who's opinion I value) that today's EFI engines don't like gel batteries for some reason.
IS there any truth in this ? ?

None that I know of. Check out any race car, AGM or GEL batteries. EFI or Carb

I have never heard anything like that, unless it has to do with the charging systems. Gel and AGM batteries can be ruined by overcharging, or at least by charging with too high of voltage. At least that is what I am learning.

I think

Actually .. that sounds more like what I recall hearing .
That's a bit more understandable huh ?

:

The Odyssey battery cannot be hurt by "fast or overcharging". But charging them with voltages in excess of 15 volts may cause some "gassing" and damage to the sealed structure. BTW, These are the premium batteries that Teague has put his name on to market. So, regardless of what that's worth in your opinion, it's still a great product! --- Jer

Re: Boat Battery

Here is a great link I found that explains a lot about batteries.

http://www.windsun.com/Batteries/Bat...at%20Batteries

I have chose to go with the Trojan AGM Group 27. This Battery fits right in my battery box and have been told that it is not as susceptible to over charging like the Optima Battery.

Re: Boat Battery

The TROJAN batteries are bullet-proof and cost 1/3 price of Optima and Odyssey. I had Optima's and the ratings are way overstated--Optimas struggled to crank my BB EFI 454's. The Trojans ratings are understated -- best buy for the money IMHO.

Amen! I run ACDelcos for the same reson. My Main starting battery will be replaced this season ( been in for 3 yrs) and My back up will stay, and at about $60.00 I will save about $100.00 for more gas money.
