SS Competition Gauges and bezels????

I just started on redoing my dash panel and replacing gauges, looking at the SS Competion gauges. Their price seems great! Anyone have positive/negative comments on them?

What other brands would you recommend for a person on a budget? Looked at some other brands like Lavorsi.... prices are a bit on the high side. Keep in mind, I'm just an average joe boater, not out racing the circuit.

Bezels, who's got the best deals???

You might want to call us and give us a shot at your business. Or email us a list of what gauges you need. I bet we'll be less than you expected on Livorsi.

Ran all last year with the S & S gauges. Couldnt be happier. They work and look great.

Re: SS Competition Gauges and bezels????

They are good looking guages, I would have gone with them except they didn't have what I needed. I picked up a set of Livorsi's used. 2 of the guages didn't operate or read correctly, Livorsi replaced them no questions asked. The little extra for Livorsi goes a long way.

Trick, I'm going to add water pressure gauges, do you sell the sending units? Or will the oil or fuel sending units work for these gauges? What psi unit should I order? What bezels do you have in blue? Light blue, med blue, dark blue??? Think I'm looking for something in a darker blue... let me know... I also have the large black square indicator on the dash for drives and trim tabs, do you sell a bezel for that?

Big inches... looks great! Where did yo get your bezels? Are those what they term "flat" style? I've seen flat, monster and angled so far.....

Thanks everyone!

bob dropped a box of them off at our shop this summer they look darn good. he made alot of people mad when he started selling them. the big reason i beleive that they are so inexpensive is that the only person who puts their hands on them before you is bob. also bob is the type of person that will go out of his way to take care of his customers hell he might ask you if he can help you install them

Do the S&S gauges come in any other color or style than the white ones that are on the website?

I met Bob and saw his gages(door prise!) at our Cleveland party. I will be redoing my dash w/in the next year and will be using his stuff. No doubt about it.

He has helped me out before, offered to help me out again, and I like to spend my money w/local people I know. He and his wife are great people.

No we stuck with the one design to keep the price low. Our target market was for people who want to upgrade w/o spending a lot of $$$

Several people upgraged their entire dash when a few gauges went bad. They said it was almost as cheap as replacing just the broken gauges.

You can buy "rubbers" for the bulbs to change the color

Where might one find these "rubbers"???

Re: SS Competition Gauges and bezels????

Sorry for the delay I was overseas.

The numbers light as light green, the surround is amber. You can use lightbulb covers, I know summit racing has them for sure.

The problem is that if you use red which is opposite end of the color spectrum from the green numbers, they will not light well.

This very subjective though as one of my friends runs red and he is pleased with the look. I personally did not like it.

I have red guages. Although they are nice at night (they don't blind you), I personally don't like them.

SSComp, have you ever seen a dimmer switch on dash guages?

I had one on mine. It came with the boat. Little open electronics board that controls the voltage to the bulbs. I didnt use it on the new gauges since I doubled the amount I didnt want to risk overloading it. I will look at it close and try to determine its max amp load one of these days.

SSComp 01-26-2006 02:26 PM

Re: SS Competition Gauges and bezels????

You can use a dimmer. We actually chose green letters so that they do not seem bright. We tried to get a balance where you can read the meter well without being blinded.

Back lighting the letters helps this due to we are trying to light only what is needed. The perimeter light is basically just to illuminate the pointer.

Re: SS Competition Gauges and bezels????

SScomp.... took my h20 water pressure gauge to find brass fittings, what size fitting screws to the back of the gauge for the water? Found sort of a fit, but was very loose until you got it all the way on tight. What size water line should I be using? 1/8 1/4? Do I need compression fittings or just the fittings that you slide the water hose over and secure with a tie wrap or hose clamp?

biginches 01-27-2006 05:08 PM

Re: SS Competition Gauges and bezels????

the gauge fitting is 1/8(i'm assuming npt).
1/8 hose is fine w/zip/hose clamp :D

SSComp 01-27-2006 05:16 PM

Re: SS Competition Gauges and bezels????

Thanks big inches...you are correct 1/8 NPT

Re: SS Competition Gauges and bezels????

SS Comp,

I just ordered a full set of gauges from your website. I've never had to replace my guages before, I know they are the same size and will fit where the old guages are, but will all the plugs in the back of the guages be the same as my current ones? (I have faria now)

Also, can I roll the new hourmeter to match the hours that my current hourmeter shows?

Thanks. Your product looks great and at a killer price.
