Default Looking for sbc cam

Getting ready to put motor together need help with cam.
383 9.5-1, world s/r heads, performer intake.Would like to stick with flat hyd cam. Not looking for max performance, just nice low idle.I'am sure it will out perform the 305 it will replace. Also, I haven't orderd the heads or intake, so I'am open to all idea's.
thank you
Paul

I am assembling a 383 (actually a 389, 060 over) as well. I called Tyler Crockett of Crockett Marine and he sent me a intake/cam package. The cam he sent me is a little bigger than what you will probably want, as I went for performance over idle. It is a 228 @0.50 single pattern, Crane part #100072. I am running ported and polished 882 2.05/1.60 heads. The intake was a dual plane high-rise Brodix.

I would give him a call or email and tell him what your boat is, weighs, motor details, and what you want out of it.

In some 383 applications no. 2 and 6 rods will hit the camshaft, I would be sure to get a small base circle cam to prevent this. If not you will be grinding rods.

c staub you onluy have to take a bit off the bolts, its better to do that than run a small base circle cam. you need to clearnce everything in the rotating assm during you mock up, =check your piston to valve while your at it.

When I built my 383 years ago before it became popular (I mean 1988ish) the rods hit all the piston skirts never even thought of the cam. Had to modify every piston and get it rebalanced, I guess it came out ok still runs, use to do bracket racing with it every weekend now drive it maybe once a year...
