24" tabs on a 27 foot boat?

I am looking for trim tabs for my 272 Baja and wonder if I should go for 17" or the longer 24" tabs from Eddiemarine.
I often boat in rough waters and my theory is the longer the better, price is the same anyway.
Are there any negative side effects I have to be aware of if I go the 24" route?
Thanky for your ideas and experiences.
Andy

I would go with the longer tabs. I have a set of DanaMarine HP1000's on my 259 Convincor. They work perfect. Just make sure that when they are fully raised up, they are angled above the bottom. You dont want them dragging in the water when you have them up. Make sure you get good mechanical indicators as well.

I have 280 K-planes on a '24 boat. They work great.

I had the bigg tabs on my 22 Velocity, they worked great. Just make sure that they dont drag. They are like BIG speedbrakes.

Nordic 28 Heat & Dana Marine 1000's 24" long
and 30" lower plates for Poker Run's etc :D

I built these 19"-22" (they are tapered) long ones for my 90 plus mph baja 272,they are better than the stock bennets but I'd try even longer if I was doing it again. I can ram them all the way down and you can feel the boat slow down but it doesn't feel like its going to stuff or anything,Smitty

Call if I can help with advice or pricing.

I've seen everything from 14" to 28" on a 27. Most of out customers opt for a 22 to 24' tab on this size boat. Basically a 280 K-Plane size.

The 272 Baja is a 25' boat. With stock power, I do not think a +20" Tab would be the way to go... I'd stay in the 19-20" range if I was you... I would be afraid of drag and speed loss... My 2 cents

In Europe we don't have big lakes with flat water...

On flat water, small tabs like benett's are good

Poker runs etc take place in the open sea or river with very rough water conditions... 4 to 8 foot chops and long waves are very common so big tabs are really needed

K-planes 280 S with 19,25 " length are fine but the bigger the better ...

21 ft ski (racing) boats are running with 50" trim tabs and water tanks up to 100 gallon in front of the boats trying to keep the boat in the water... my 02 cents

Re: 24" tabs on a 27 foot boat?

Thanks everybody, good info, this board rocks!
I am concerned myself that the 24s act as a speed brake....depends on how high they can be lifted in the full up position. I know the Merc k-Planes can be pulled up and away from the water even on a boat with a nose-up attitude....but I dont know about the EMIs or the Danas....I dont want to loose speed, not a single mile because I cant afford it :-) (boat runs only 70)
