Re: BBC Intake question

On my old engine (454 mag) I used an Edelbrock Air Gap. Since the runners are so large on the GM rectangular port heads I was afraid that If I used a single plain intake it would kill my low end. The Air Gap is a dual plane that is claimed to flow to 6500rpm. I used it with an 850 Holley and a 1 inch spacer. This addition really woke my engine up. Good luck with your build and keep me posted on your progress.

I just bought new dart intakes for 454s with edelbrock heads and discovered the same problem. With my intakes came a cut sheet that said .070" would need to be milled from the runner surfaces in order for these intakes to fit standard bbc heads. I had them cut ($145 for both) and now they are perfect.

I just purchased a dual plane air gap intake for a pair of 454 mags and Dart heads. We have not put it together but did a lot of research and in the 1500 to 5500 RPM range that seemed to be the best fit.

The air gap seems to cool the air/fuel mixture and picks up a few extra ponies...

did you have to cut 2 or 4 sides of the manifold?
