Salt vs Fresh Speeds
How much faster are boats in the salt?
|
Re: Salt vs Fresh Speeds
Geeez, not this again. :D
I boat in both fresh and salt regularly and never really noticed a measureable difference. Others may say different. |
Re: Salt vs Fresh Speeds
I had the same question... see http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...d.php?t=119847

Re: Salt vs Fresh Speeds
salt water is denser than fresh water, so your boat is more bouyant cuse it is less dense in relation to the water, so it floats higher outta the water, causing less drag when runnin.....

Re: Salt vs Fresh Speeds
I personnaly believe more in air density from different altitude than the fact the water is salt or fresh. That's what we had to work with when I was racing open wheel formula cars...

Re: Salt vs Fresh Speeds
I've heard it has to do with the density of the water as well. Cold water as compare to warm, cold being denser. But, that could be the air also. If the water is colder the air above the water is colder also. I'm talking Lake Michigan in May compare to August.

Re: Salt vs Fresh Speeds
Speeds are the same.....the "difference" just depends on how much you've had to drink! :drink:
