If that doesn't workand you're a good sized guy you can manually swing the drive up and put a 2x4 or 2x2 on face as far up between the drive and the gimbal ring as you can. You can then somewhat drop the drive and use that force to begin to pull it apart. Make sure you grease the $hit out of the spline when you put it back together so you don't have this problem the next time you pull it. Don't forget to pull the shift cable...

Pulled mine off recently and same thing with grease caked on the spline and drive was a job to get removed. Whats the best thing to use that wont leave any nasty residue to clean that up so fresh grease can be applied.
either merc spline grease or merc 101

Every time I install my drive I take a tube of Merc spline grease and stick the driveshaft right into the tube coating it fully. If this isn't enough to keep her lubed for at least a 100 hrs I have bigger problems.

The whole reason I pulled the drive was to grease the universals, guess what?, there are no grease fittings on them!!! What a *****....
