Cam guys plz help

I took my motor to the dyno & didn't start to make torque until 4700, peaked out at 5800, 675 horse. It's a Chevy 540 w/Brodix intake, BB2+ heads (ported), 1050 Dominator carb, & it has a Crane cam 610 intake lift, 632 exhaust lift, 112 lobe separation, duration 298 intake, & 306 exhaust. Dyno guys says too much duration on exhaust, holding valves open too long, blowing raw gas out of exhaust. Can jet down doesn't make much of a difference, still rich. This is the 2nd cam I've put in the motor & neither one seems to be the one. Going broke trying to trouble shoot this. The guy dynoing is a "car guy" the guy that built the motor is a "boat guy" but doesn't build many motors. Where I live only 1 close to me is Sterling and don't have pockets deep enough for him. So, if anyone could give me some input on what cam shaft I should run or why this cam won't work, I'd greatly appreciate it.

There should be no problem with that cam in a 540. Its a crane 741 and plenty of people run them in 502's.

Actually, 675hp @ 5800 sounds pretty decent. Thats if he's got the dyno set up right.

To bring the torque curve down, you could advance the cam. I would also think about trying a smaller carb.

I appreciate your feedback, however I am not much of an engine guy (at all) so I don't really know what you are referring too. I'm not sure if it is lobe center b/c the dyno guys were setting it up. What is ".050 numbers"? Sorry for the ignorance, but like I said, I am not an engine guy

If you are not sure of the cam numbers, post the cam grind # or part # and brand. Your dyno guy will know what advancing the cam means. Basicaly it means offsetting the valve timing to make it happen a bit earlier or later, depending on what you prefer.
