SSM 3 Maintenace Items?
#1
What is the recommended regular maintaince for a set of SSM 3's?
I'm thinking I need to pull them every year, grease the splines and change drive fluid. If I only had 20 hours them in a season, could I bypass the pull and grease and just change fluid.
Any big items need to be done periodically?
These are fresh water, no abuse (except for once a year shootout run) rebuilt drives.
Thanks

I changed my lube at the end of the season, no matter what. I suppose significant water contamination could cause a lot of corrosion over the winter months. Or worse yet, freeze!
I lubed the splines and U joints at the same time.
Retorque the prop a couple times after installation. They seem to loosen up after initial torquing.

In general, I agree with Gary. I run in only fresh water and change fluid in my SSMV's every 20-30 hours. Just my opinion, but pulling them to grease the splines every 50 hours is probably a bit of overkill. The props do loosen and new nuts help in that regard. Spec for the prop nuts on my drives is 100#. Last year, I torqued them to 110# and seemed less loose when I removed them at the end of the season. I've seen SpeedMasters where you could spin the big washer which was a dead giveaway that the nut backed off. For what it's worth...
