We hand build engines one at a time, buy parts selected Al'acarte to build long block.
Then we are told they have them for nearly half the price!
Not comparing apples/apples but some people only go by price. I was just trying to point the guy in that direction since he only was using price as the criteria .

I have about 10 454's that I need to move. Prices range from $2800 to $5000. In the $3,000 range you can get a complete low hour engine or for $5,000 i will sell you a reman 454 425HP complete with Gil Manifolds, poilished TRS length risers and all coolers for a TRS set up. I will re dyno the engine upon purchase. Call me, 903-786-3797...Matt

NicotineFit,
I am parting out my 1991 454 Mag (365 h.p.). I have the original Rect Port heads (complete), Exhaust manifolds and risers, Intake and Q-jet carb. Give me a call if you are interested. Thanks Steve 517-548-2258.

I can personally say that John at "Marine Engines aka 1800runsnew" is very honest and builds great engines.
All his deals are great and he backs up what he says.
Good luck in your search.

I started with a set of 454's, 330 hp, but when we got into them we found they had mag bottom ends, forged pistons and flat tops, and the low hp heads. Motors ran okay, but nothing to brag about.
I went to a local machine shop and had them order a set of dart heads (cast, lower end ones, look for the "308" runners), a comp cam kit to retrofit the non-roller block to a roller kit, ordered a set of roller rockers (comp cams) and the intake/carbs. We are working up two motors.
Had some trouble with the timing gear sets, seems they were not as straight forward as I thought, but it has all worked out.
Total is about $2400 per motor, but I did get stuff at a discount, I am the CPA for the machine shop and got everything at cost, so I would guess a little higher.
Also purchased the gull tube headers from Eddie Marine, just got them but that was a major pain in the ###, they changed prices after ordering and took 6 weeks to get them, I doubt I do business there again. I seriously contemplated sending everyhting back, but they waited so long to ship it I did not have time to get stuff from antother shop, so I took the lumps and went on. Going forward I would look to antoehr shop, but I must say the headers look awsome, but hell, at $2000 a pair they damn well better.
We are runing the stock ignigtion, I do not think the HP gain justifies the cost at this level of motor.
max 441 hp on dyno, avg is 370, I am waiting on printout results of the second motor and will then order props. Will be glad to fax spec sheets and dyno results if you want.
Hope this helps....
