Solid Motor mounts

I've had more problems with the Merc motor mounts than I can type here. I was thinking of going to solid mounts. Two different people advised against it. They said you will feel a lot of vibration from the motor. What's your opinion?

I'm running a stock 496HO, but I run pretty hard at times, lots of flight time. :D

Re: Solid Motor mounts

I ran sold mounts on my last boat and did have some problems with harmonics. The frequency was right to cause a bracket to break on my mufflers. When the bracket broke the solenoid overheated and put off a good smoke show. I truly thought I was on fire.

Solid mounts are all I've ever used.
Just do it.

Re: Solid Motor mounts

I have used nothing but solid mounts in my last 3 boats, no problems ever. Every tru offshore boat has solid mounts of one type or another don't they?

Had Merc mounts on my formula, when I repowered last year I put offshore mounts in. No problems whatsoever.

Once you go solid you wont ever go back!! What little vibration you might feel will let you know you are still alive!!
And you problems will be over. Just make sure your engine alignment is good before you drill the holes for the mounts. I had a coupler that was warped when I was doing it, gave me fits till I found it. Would rotate the motor 180* and the alignment was way off.. realign and then rotate, repeat, until I figured it out. Borrowed a good coupler, drilled the holes, used the warped coupler for years..

Hope this helps
Dick

IMHO, I don't think any offshore boat should have stock mounts.

With my new extension box on, my mechanic wants to switch me to solid mounts. Said I should not have any problems. :D

I switched last spring, once you get it set up right, it stays.

It is a PIA job to get them exactly right though.
