Question Anyone changed impellors -496

I wanted to find out if anyone here has changed the water impellors on a 496 HO? Dealer wants $500 to put the housing kits in 2 motors. Is this high or is it really that much work? Any info or help would be appreciated.

Why do the housings need to be replaced? I thought the 496's had a brass housing.

It is a pain in the ass to R&R the impellors on the 496s, but not hard to do by oneself. The brass housings should not be bad, and they cost around $300-$400 for each housing (they are brass), so I doubt they are replacing the housings.

I could see them charging 2 hours per motor plus impellors and seals plus shop fees.

I have twin 496HOs, and I have done mine a couple times.

Thaks guys! The motors are pretty tight...29 Outlaw. He said he would have to remove the rear bench to get to the starboard side. He checked them today and said that he didn't think they were bad yet. How often should you replace these?
