Outdrive trim switch
 

I was playing around with the boat while on the trailer, checking the throttle play/movement (single quicksilver 300 model).

Afterwards I noticed that the outdrive will not go up or down anymore? The trailer mode still goes up but not the up/down switch?

What gives? Did I pop a fuse or did something give/or gotten disconnected? :(

Please advise.

It sounds like your trim limit switch may be bad or out of calibration if you drive is equipped with one.. :) jamie

I guess the first question is do you normaly have to have the key on in order for the drive to trim? Second is were you in the bilge around the motor or trim pump cleaning or working? Check the plugs at the trim pump and make sure your battery switch is in the right position.

How would you diagnose/test the trim limit switch to see if it has gone bad? Buy a new one and try it?

Actually, I was trying to see and mark my trim gauge where the outrdrive was in line with the boats bottom. It seemed different than before at the first sea trial.

I tried the key and the battery was switched on. I did grease the power hatch ram grease nipple, so maybe I did knock something loose by the trim pump...I'll check it later.

Is the trailer mode on a seperate connection?

The trailer switch bypasses the trim switch. So yes it is kind of on a seperate circuit. You can juper the wire from the trim pump's leads to the limit switch. In other words bypass or close the circuit for the limit switch. If it works it's out of calibration or bad. If it does'nt work you have annother problem.. Jamie / Lakeside :)

Where is the limit switch and which of the trim pump wires do I jumper wire to the limit switch?

Ok since no one else is replying. Here is what I would do and it happens to me a couple times a year.
Take the trim limit sender unit apart. As I remeber it is the one on the port side. There are 4 philp head screws. Once you take it apart you will see how it works. Simple. Notice the position of the sensors when you remove it. Are they touching? If not, that is why it is not working. Just reposition them and readjust.
This is a 10 minute project.
When my goes out of adjustment I just use the trailer switch. I know when its trimmed to high and never use the gauge anyway.
Now if the wife was driving its a different story. :eek:

Is that how you adjust the trim gauge with? I thought the trim gauge was out of wack at the sea trial.

Unfortunately, I will not have a chance to check this out until Sunday :(

That one is for the gauge. Just losen the two screws and move it and watch the gauge.
The port side is for the trim limit so you don't over trim.

Have you ever checked your hinge pin? My buddies boat trim switch would act up twice a yr. Every time his pin has loosened up, which changes the position of the pivoting contact switch. The contact itself can't get out of adjustment with the way it is located with the 12pt plug. The outer housing can rotate a bit, but only the amount of the slots. Enought to get out of adjustment. Not that I've seen those PITA screws loosen up by themselves. My point is if it is getting out of adj. often, there is a cause.
