Cool Drew Shotgun Silencers!

Getting ready to put on a set of new Drew marine shotgun silencers. I currently have no muffs straight thru with the skokie(spelling?) rubber exhaust tip flappers. These are the only flappers on the boat! Will the new silencers be sufficient or do I need another set of flappers installed in the tips.

It should be enough depending on what results you are looking for. I have the drew marine shotguns also. they are not mufflers, but what they do is take the bark out of the obnoxious exhaust(love that sound). I have only been talked to once about loud exhaust. and this is when I first started my engines and the flappers on my shotguns went wide open. the sheriff came over yelling at me that my boat was to loud, I apologized and explained that my flappers blow open when first starting I went back and closed them, he thanked me and I was on my merry way. but they are still a little loud. my exhaust is dry until the end of my tips.

Thumbs up Re: Drew Shotgun Silencers!

I have the shotguns on my Mistress, I like them. They are on my 540s. The only problem is they are super loud on the start. Idle they are ok. Wide open, they sound the best. lol

Guys,
What I am concerened with is water coming in through the exhaust tips and getting in the engine! My tips are real close to the waterline. When sitting in the cove another boats wake could rush into the exhaust. I am just worried that these wont stop the water like the skokie flapps. Is this a concern. Why are they so loud on startup?

mine are loud on start up because I have the spring pressure set low. so when I start the engine the flaps blow open so it is like straight exhaust. You can adjust them so they will be closed all the time and the exhaust pressure will open them 1/4 - 1/2. This is probably the way they are suppose to be set up. when I'm under full power my flaps open all the way. they cantilever over and I have to physically shut them if I want them to silence.

Now on to the original question. I have waves crash right into my exhaust pipes and never worried about water getting into the engine, it is probably very feasible, now you have me thinking. My exhaust sits about 4" higher at the exhaust manifold and angles down to my transom. had it like this for 4 years and no problems.

I would not be concerned about that. The springs on the drews will keep them closed. Actually, they will probably work better than your external flappers you have now. The rubber ones tend to float open.

Loud on start up, because there is no water for a couple seconds.

Ran the Shotguns on the last boat, 525SC's, really took the bark out out, nice mellow tone at idle and mid range, but leaves you that sweet noise at wot. As for water entry, agree fully that they are way beter than the standard rubber flappers, a much more positive seal. Never a problem for me. Just talk to them when you order, spring tension on the recoil set up varies by your engine power, they know their product, you will not be dissapointed.
