Hi

I looked at this old tutorial, but many of the references are outdated !!

For the 500 EFI, do you have any references that are still valid ?

Thanks in advance

Holds an extra quart of oil and did very well in hydrocruisers oil filter comparisons for flow and filtration.

Always better to have an extra quart of oil on hand :)

But...with no drain-back valve in place...for those of us with the filters mounted upside down if you will...you never really have that extra quart, do you?
Old thread, I realize...just curious.

Never had an upside down filter like that, isn’t it kinda messy doing an oil change?

Not too bad, really. It's basically empty so...just a small amount trickles out...I usually just put a shop rag underneath to catch what little comes out.

I punch a hole in the top of the filter the night before so all the oil drains down.

If the filter has an anti drainback valve, it shoud be full of oil. Punching a hole in the top of the filter will allow the oil to drain down.

Maybe I mis-read or misunderstood post #4 where it mentioned that there wasn't an anti-drainback valve on these filters...or was that just for the Fram listed?

I’m also a little confused. Just me thinking out loud I don’t think you would want an anti drain back. How would it filter if it’s always holding oil.
My brain is fried. I get it

Filters with anti-drain'back' check valve flaps, only restrict fluid loss of the filter if placed in a position that wouldn't hold fluid.

It does not restrict normal flow of the oil.
