Question 98 Fountain Fever Prop Ques.

Got a question for all the prop experts. Newly purchased (about 4 weeks ago) 27 fever, 502, 415 hp, does fine cruising over 3500 rpm. Between plane off and 3500 however it runs great until you hit some waves and it seems like the prop starts ventilating. Some days are worse than others. Does under heavy and light loads. Dont believe it is the original prop. Any ideas out there?

Aaaaaaaggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh! Good question? The current prop is unmarked except is has a 4 blade HPL-24C-L marked inside the hub. Just found that this weekend. Dont know what that means.

The dealer has checked the hull number and it came with a Hydromotive 15.5 dia, 26 pitch prop

You don't have your tabs / drives buried, right ?

Tabs are not buried, and have experimented with the drive in various positions from "tucked under the boat" to trimmed out fairly far.

One of the 27 ft fountain owners I know off here runs a 1.65 ratio drive and ran a merc 28 pitch non-labbed prop around 69-71 mph but could only turn 4600-4800 with 496 ho. In his case a 28 pitch labbed or turned down 28 might be right,in your case I'm not sure but its a similar set-up,Smitty
