BY-Pass Valve for Procharger
Anyone have knowledge of / used / installed a By-Pass Valve on a Procharger installation ??
I'm making over 10 #'s boost and would like to limit Boost to that amount.
I have a carbureted M3.
Any recommendations ??
Thanks..........Larry

Re: BY-Pass Valve for Procharger
To limit boost on a belt driven blower you have to change pulleys. I know you want the boost to come on quick and then blow off the excess air at WOT, but you are then working the blower harder than necessary and may even move the operating point to a lower efficiency area on the compressor map.
You do need a bypass valve but not for boost control. The valve will be open at idle, then closed as you open the throttles. The valve will stay closed until you get back to idle conditions or in the event of a sudden throttle closure at higher RPM. This operating mode is meant to keep the compressor out of surge.
Locate the bypass valve before the intercooler.
