Dave,
Mine has a lower serial #, that explains the "IN GEAR".
So my guess was wrong.
I will keep trying to get rid of this nuisance warning.
If Dave or somebody else knows what it can be or how to solve this problem, please let me know.
I will check this thread on a regular base to see if there is somebody with a thougt on this.
If the problem is solved, one way or the other, I shall let you all know, via this threat, in order to aid future boaters with similar problems.
Thanks again (especially Dave).
Marco

The faults are for optional sensors that may or may be hooked to the engine that are used for the rest of the boat. If you do not have them installed, they will set a fault as soon as you clear them with the scan tool.
The gauge however... Will look at what sensors are "faulted" when you reset it, and not display those faults again unless a sensor is installed, and quits working. Then it will show a fault. Is a sensor is never installed, the only place it should show up is with a scan tool, not on any of the gauges.
Are there any other icons or messages displayed?
What Icon (s) is it? Just the Bell?
I also see that both fuel level inputs are not connected. Did someone configure either of the fuel tanks in the gauge? If they are configured, but not installed, they will give you an alarm all the time. Be sure tank 1 and 2 are not installed and there is no capacity for the tanks when going through the CAL menus. There is an "edit external sensors" menu in the gauge. Be sure that you do not have something turned on that you do not have installed. Someone could have gotten adventerous along the way, and started going through the gauge menus, and turning some things on in there sometime prior to this happening? This may have accidentally enabled some of the fault diagnostics for a sensor that is not installed.

Hello MB WI,
First of all, thank you for your input.
The Icons blinking simultanously are the "engine" and "bell".
And the external sensors which creates the "active faults" in the DDT are indeed NOT used in my boat.
What you mentioned in your second paragraph, about the gauge should NOT show those faults when the gauge (or the PCM 555's memory for that matter, I did both!) is being reset. That does makes sense.
But still it shows on my SC1000!
After I read your reply this afternoon, I immediatly reset my SC1000 (twice!) and went thru CAL1 and 2 menu's.
(For what the fuel capacity concerns I cannot even set an volume, the gauge just says "no"in the CAL menu.)
I noticed however that you, like Dave, mention an "edit external sensors" menu!
I only have an SC1000 monitor connected to this engine (software version 2.00), since the dash already had older analoge gauges.
And I cannot find this menu on the monitor nor in the manuals!
And after reading your info about the "logic"of this gauge, this is not nessecary!
I did however tried an older Smart Tach (VDO, the one without the arrows) yesterday and this one's CAL2 menu could turn off some external sensors.
So I did, and thereafter chanced the gauge with my SC1000, but that did not work.
After a couple of seconds the bell and engine started blinking again .
(this probably works only for that specific gauge).
But maybe....could this be something?:
I did tried this gauge a couple of months ago, before the SC1000 monitor, and since it did not work properly, only a few parameters showed and a warning.............."DATA BUS NOT CONNECTED"..........
(I assumed that the software was too old for this engine since the manual mentioned .... optimax outboards before may 2001.....
The later SC1000 tachometer specifically mentioned the 496/8.1 in the manual.) I did not pay too much attention to this.
Since this engine has been rebuild in my boat (2004), maybe there is a loose/cut/short wire (original engine was a 7.4 ltr) creating a "DATA BUS NOT CONNECTED" warning.
And in turn setoff the alarm on the SC1000.
I use the blue data wire with resistors on both ends.
This warning does not show on DDT (and while I am typing this, I just thought of an open in the blue data cable?? Could this set off a warning like this, or am I just going crazy?)
Thanks again.
Regards,
Marco
