I actally paid a Mercury shop to do it. I think I paid the shop 200 USD for doing it. That included lifting the boat (I have it in the water all summer season), the shift cable + work. The price indicates it is quite a simple procedure but it may be worth to pay someone to do it. If you have the boat out of the water you can easily check if the cladding is worn/ broken by timming the drive all the way up in trailering position and have a look. Apart from the shift cable cladding I would also check the shift cable adjustments on the engine before assuming that it is the clutch. From all the posts I have read I think the clutch is one of the few things that does not break in that drive

Good luck!
