grease

I couldn't resist.

allows you to grease the coupler without pulling the drive, every 50 hours can't hurt.

Very correct.... Serviced a 2003 Sea ray sold as 2004 last year and couldn't believe how hardned the spline grease became. maybe not a bad thing being able to grease the coupler without drive removal... This only applies to every two to three seasons, and drive must be be removed and transom assy. fully inspected, etc...

Hey Fellas,

Got a question, I just pulled my my 600 hp 502 ci. engine out of my 24 Pantera. I have about 180 hrs on the drive coupler, heavy duty mercury marine (mcm 861523A9). I will be freshening my engine and reinstalling it my question is do I need to replace the coupler or will it be O.K. I have always greased the unit probably more than necessary. Visually it looks as good as the day i bolted up to the engine. Any advise on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Anthony

should be fine ...only problem would be spline wear from misalignment ... the splines should be squared (flat) .. If they come to a point you need to replace it ....m
