In 1' wind chop behind the breakwater, I have driven the boat at 66.7gps at 4900rpm. I believe there was 2-3mph left behind because I ran out of room behind the seawall.

Why wouldn't a 1' longer hull (more stability), weighing the same or less than my 232, be able to match those numbers especially with an additional 30hp?

Is there a difference in deadrise? Does your 232 have a pad and the 240 not? I just can't remember those details, but if present they might account for the difference.

I don't know about the 240, but the 232 has a 23* deadrise.
I'm really not familiar with the term "pad" .... what does it mean?

See how the bottom of this Velocity doesn't come down to a sharp point, rather has a flat bottom with slanted sides? The bottom part is called a pad and it adds speed, but reduces rough water capability.

Got ya ..... and Thanks!

No, my 232 does not have a pad.
It's a rounded V all the way to the rear of the boat.

gotcha.

Pad sizes can also vary from a few inches wide to very wide like Velocity.

Around here in freshwater at 600-700 feet elevation 70 mph STOCK 502 powered baja outlaws are NON-EXISTENT. My 2000 272 ran 62-63 with a normal load stock with 502 mpi, have met people with 272's with 330hp/310 hp 454's that claimed to run 60-62 but only ran 56-57 when clocked using a gps. Running my boat stock, propped perfect,on fumes with nothing else in it I saw 64 mph from what I remember BUT I never had a labbed prop back then either.Your speed with base motor is very similar to the 272's I'm referencing with same motors, you will see 62-63 mph pretty easy but it will probably take more than 85 hp and a labbed prop to get you to 70 mph. I'm sure 1/2 dozen guys will chime in about their 70 or 75 mph stock bajas but don't believe all the BS unless you see it on gps. It took a blower, merlin heads and other upgrades to get my boat to mid 70's (around 650 hp),headers, msd, several ecm tunes, several labbed props, more boost and countless testing to get upper 70's loaded and low 80's light. Salt water and sea level with a labbed prop might get you mid 60's,running empty might get you 66-67 mph, just don't get sucked into all the bs and hype from some of these guys who cannot prove their 70 plus mph claims,Smitty

Hey Smitty

Why does anyone have to prove their claims?
No one is on trial .... nor are we trying to sell anything.
We're simply sharing information we each believe is true.
If the information seems suspect ..... your free to ignore it!

I know what you are saying I get tiered of arguing with people about how fast their boat goes. Funny how I pass so many 70MPH boats with my GPS only reading 65MPH. A lot of people take the speedo reading (3 MPH fast) then add 3MPH more. Unless you have GPS or radar do not know how fast your boat is. Some people do not realize how much you have to do just to squeak out an extra 1 or 2 MPH. OH Yeah, to answer your question I think you are probably looking at about a 62/63 MPH.

I didn't realize that this question had turned into an argument.
Did someone say something which you think is wrong?
