I want to empty my gas tanks completely during winterization. I have a couple of plastic 55 gallon drums that will hold what I have left but how do I pump it dry? What type of pump will NOT have any chance of spark? Bilge pump?

I use a 12 volt fuel pump (Weldon) and transfer what fuel is left in my boat, into my vehicles.

Same thing here except I use an old Holley pump I don't trust on my car.

I bought a unversal electric pump from Napa. Made fittings to adapt into the fuel line with 3/8 barbed fitting. Ran a long 3/8 fuel line outside the boat. With the battery & pump safely away been pumping directly into the vehicles. Been working mint but just need to keep an eye when it gets close to full.

Are you guys talking about something like this? I was thinking about a cheapo bilge pump from my local West Marine but I'm not sure about spark.

I would not use that. It needs to be fuel rated, other wise it may either melt or catch fire. Some thing like this would be better fuel pump just add some wire and clips. Depends where your fuel tank fill and or suction line is you can add a suction hose as well. Then you can use this pump to pump out the drum as well. It can be a slow process if your doing a lot of fuel.

I use an electric fuel pump too. I would not use a bilge pump - no way!!!

However, I empty in spring little before ready to splash. I stabil the fuel when it goes away in fall though.

I'm not sure which is better to leave over winter - empty or full tank - but my feeling is full or near full. Let the sweat happen outside tank vs inside it.
