So far so good...need to do some prop testing come spring, but I'm happy so far. Motor's sound pretty nasty...

Mark is a great guy to do business with. His shop is immaculate and he is a top shelf engine builder/rigger.

Congrats looks like you are set now!!

I know this is going to sound redundant...and also not trying to hammer on your engine builder, but if he has had to rebuild them more than once for his own mistakes and yet still is handing you a bill, and then you and he are "hoping" he's got it right this time, then with all due respect you are falling into a bottomless pit and it is time to hit the "eject" button and move on to another/better marine engine builder.

Find a hi-perf marine engine builder who is straight forward and has an excellent track record when it comes to marine hi-perf engines, and....do a lot of asking around.

I'll keep the board posted but all of this $$$ and the very unsafe situations of blowing motors, has caused my family to refuse to get back on the boat. Each time I get another bill for something.
I feel for ya. Fix it and dump it. Life is short, hopefully the important things like health and family will take you thru this storm. Hang in there. It will get better. Dave

If you had hp500's (502's) which have 4.0 stroke and 4.446 bore how did they get built up to 540's if you kept the stock cranks-most 540's use a 4.25 stroke crank? Sorry to hear of your troubles. I would probably NOT post on a thread telling of your problems IF the engine builder is standing behind the motors blowing because next thing you know the engine builder will get a attitude about the bad publicity and tell you your on your own,not saying to keep it a secret BUT you don't want to ultimately get in a pizzing match with them and end up with another 15,000$ repair bill,Smitty

You spent close to $60K and they failed twice due to builder error-AND you are handed a bill each time? Something is wrong w/ this picture. If it was a build issue that caused problems, why are you getting a bill?
I wish you would have heeded my advice and taken them to Joey Griffin in NC. You'd have lots of money in your pocket and motors that run!!!
Seems to me - YOUR builder should be giving YOU money instead of the other way around.
