Do cam drive pumps (magnaflow) work on offshore boats.I'm building a pair of motors and need pumps. These pumps interest me because of no belts.Has any one used them. Thanks JOHN

Yeah, Cam driven pumps look nice and eliminate the need of a belt and clean up the appearance of an engine a bit, but because they only run at camshaft speed/rotation they don't flow as much water as a regular belt driven sea pump where the belt runs the pump from the crankshaft pulley at crankshaft speed which pumps more water per. This is something that some guys don't really like and I totally understand. However, I DO use the cam driven pumps and haven't had any problems. They run at right around 5-7lbs at idle speeds and something like 18-22lbs of pressure while on plane.

I will try and post some pictures of my set-up, but something strange is going on with the forum and it is not allowing me to send picture attachments, etc----it's weird.

Ran one on our drag boat for years and it supplied plenty of water for our blower motor. Easy to service. I have wondered why this has not been used more frequently.

I run cam driven water pumps as well, and I love them. I also run 140* thermostats with 3, 3/8 holes drilled in them as a bypass. I've got 425hp, 454s.

I have used cam driven pumps for years. Both as raw water pumps and in closed cooling. Easy access for maintainence and very reliable.

This pic has a single stage Eickert pump for raw water and the cam driven pump for recirculating coolant.
