Water Pressure gauge connection

Last summer I had installed water pressure gauges on my boat. I inserted the brass fittings into the left side block drain ports. Through the season there was always some kind of sand or scale which would plug up the hose at the brass fitting which I was always cleaning out.
I recently moved the brass fitting and plastic hose to a location on top of the transmission cooler cover of each engine(454 / TRS dual cooler bellhousings) I figured this location would be up high in the water flow path away from scale/sand etc, and the first place the water hits before it even gets to the engine after the raw water pump.
Does anyone see a problem with that setup? Has anyone else done this and had a good water pressure reading?

Thanks, thats great to hear. Do you show water pressure at idle with the cooler cover plumbing setup? Mine was only showing pressure once on plane, and at wot it was about 18-20 psi.

Well, at least you get some reading at idle. Mine are hard 0's until 1500-1800 rpm. Hopefully that will change with the new location of the hose fittings. Thanks for the reply, I'm lookinf forward to seeing what I get. With any luck...an early spring will come to the cold northeast.
