Barry Grant Inline 4 barrel
Nice article in Popular Hot Rodding about Barry Grants new inline 4 barrel carb. Doesn't claim to have invented (just improved it) it in fact does a little history on it. Article make sense when you think about runner lengths. Any other thoughts on it?

When I rebuilt my 500 HPs three years ago I chose 850 marine demons and have had nothing but good runing with them. They were a mild build an dynoed at 565 each but having 3 trouble free years of boating was worth the mild motors You gave me great advice then With some of the cureent thought on changing the firing order on BBC and the gains they see attributed to the way air flows in the manifold and interacts with the firing order. This appears to be another step forward What type of performance gain did you see on the sbc . The article talked about runability but nothing on upper end TQ and HP gains When do you think a marine BBC will be available? |
Re: Barry Grant Inline 4 barrel
Klaw,
Didn't do a lit of optimization testing with the initial stuff. Doing drivability right now. Then back to the dyno to try some other things. The biggest things that were impressive were the differences in A/F I say as much as 3-1/2 points difference from cylinder to cylinder, and less than a half point when with the new set up. I looks like we'll actually be able to get more agressive on the camshaft and cylinder heads. I'll know more in the next month or so. Once we finish the SBC stuff, I'm moving on to both LS & BBC combinations than others. At that point we'll look to see about making a carburetor to meet the USCG requirements. There is a ton of potential in them. |
Re: Barry Grant Inline 4 barrel
Are there any pics we can seeonline about the inline carb?
I always thought the old Ford Crossram twin carb maniflds were a step in that direction. Evidently not or they wouldn't have stopped making them almost 40 years ago. |

Evidently not or they wouldn't have stopped making them almost 40 years ago. Actually they were a great idea... Great enough that Trans Am, Banned them in 1971 as did NHRA, NASCAR and most other sanctioing bodies. There still against the rules today! There wasn't any reason for anyone to go after this type of setup after that due to the cost of R&D in developing a setup like this. You can see them on Popular Hot Roddings Website http://www.popularhotrodding.com/tec...l_inline_carb/ or if you go to our website www.barrygrant.com |
