Default Fuel filter cracked?

Anyone seen this before? The motor is a 2005 Merc 525 EFI. The filter was shooting gas out the end of the filter. It seems to have cracked where the weld is where the line goes into the filter. This was a new filter that just been installed, could it have been poor build quality? Thanks

Was this an inline filter?

If so it is possible the tech did not hold the filter side with a wrench while tightening and stressed the weld.
