Thunderbolt IV coils
I just dropped my Tbolt 4 coil and oil is dripping out. Can an aftermarket 12V coil (like Accel) be used in it's place. I know starters and alternators must be marine specific but how about coils?

Had a petronix go bad on me this last summer. worked great until it didn't. picked up merc coil, noticed it was much larger in diameter than the petronix. was later told that many of the aftermarket coils use finer wire in their windings, hence they are not as durable. think I'll stick with the merc until someone shows me something better.

The Tbolt coil is supposed to be "special". But I've always used the same $10 GM external resistor coil that I use on my 68 vette. Never a failure. And coils dont need to be spark protected.
