Remote drive trim switches/stereo remote
I'm interested in putting a remote switch for the drive tilt on my boat. Anyone know if this is something that can be added? I've seen a couple of new boats with merc powerplants that have this. That could be real handy. Also, i have a non marine sony stereo, i don't suppose there is some universal wired remote that works with that, that could be mounted on the back as well?

If your sony stereo has an input on the back for a wired remote, you can use a sony marine wired display remote. thier not cheap, but i wouldn't have a boat without one.

The fact your radio is non marine should have no effect. |
kick azz, my stereo is a Sony CDX-F7700, and i didn't know it but it does have a remote in, kinda looks like a walkman headset jack...........
|
Don't know if this is a model radio, but may not work for mine, bummer........
"Full compatibility for SONYŽ RM-X2C and RM-X4S remote control radios " |
I've found out that my remote, non-wired, is a RM-X141A.....
|
Try these switches for your drives and or tabs,I added a double water proof switch for my drives at the transom and love it for maintance. No climbing in and out of the boat. They also engrave them like merc does from the factory.

"Full compatibility for SONYŽ RM-X2C and RM-X4S remote control radios " It was my impression that all Sony radios that had the 1/8" phone remote jack can use the same remotes. I think you have to stay with in the same brand lines. I'm using a Sony marine remote with display on my Sony head unit (that has the uni-link jack) that does not say they are compatable. Even the Sony tech guy said they won't work together. But they do. :evilb: |

These are the remote model numbers, not stereo models.

I want one of those, where'd you get it from. What's the model........
This is mine. I don'tthink it is still availble though. Might do a search and see if there is some still on line. The newer one that has replaced it is HUGE. I pulled up your install manual and see you have the bus link. This remote should work then, but don't buy a lottery ticket on my opinion. And don't waste your time asking Sony tech line. Mine shows volume, radio stations and CD or AUX (Ipod) on display just fine. I can't recall if it shows the CD track number or not when playing a CD. I use my Ipod all the time now. Just states AUX. http://www.abtelectronics.com/product/5901.html |
The new model.

looks good, but shows it as being no longer available, guess i will have to go with the other one.
|
Try a search. Might be one still on a shelf somewhere if that's what you want.

I've had mine apart when making the SS trim ring for it. The housing is O-ringed and the buttons on front are a single water proof pad. It'll be fine for being rained on or splashed on, but not under water.
The Access brand would be a better choice for transom mount in my opinion. The Sony one isn't made real stout. Wouldn't take to much of a hit to bust the back out from the mounting studs. More of a dash, out of traffic, remote. The remote features is controlled from the phone jack plug on your head unit, so all functions will work fine. The BUS link on your head unit controls the display, so not all info may show up on the remote display. |
Mercruiser has a kit: I'll repost with the P/N, I'm sure we stock 'em, as well as having at least one Sony Marine Remote in stock.

Word is switch in stock, lists for 47 something, remote in stock looks like 130 or so list, but there is possibility a y cable may be needed for flawless trim install and extension cable for stereo remote, am looking up those. Only want to do things once ya know :-)
Dunno what pricing can be had am also checking that too, it's starting to get busy am sorry hadn't gotten back sooner (but have not forgot!) DO YOU have a CD changer now on the boat, if so a y cable may be needed for the stereo remote as well. Thanks for patience. |

Sounds like you want a Concept! :drink:
You can tie in 2 remote- I have one on the dash and one on the transom. Remotes have LCD screen so you can see what is going on and controls power, volume, CD, Ipod, etc.. Outboards have trim buttons built in. Just some gadgets.......:evilb: |
HI Cloudmaster: I'm pretty sure it's chrome bezel LCD lit screen and a flat silver face in the shape of a cross, with a round hole in the middle. Buttons...man I only had a glimpse before it got stocked.
Might be an MX55M Memory fails but I will find the thing tomorrow. marylandmark, that's a Clarion remote, yes? Impressive pics BTW. TTY'all tomorrow. |
I have a standard mercury transom trim switch on mine. It's cheap, easy to install, and a very worthwhile addition.

Cloudmaster:
The remote trim is P/N 87-851200A 1, it has the harness with the female 3 prong rubber connector to the pump and also has the 3 prong rubber connector to the harness. IOW, the adaptor harness and the switch, factory New old Stock. The switch is a simple hole in the transom with lots of room for error, a little sealant and you're done. 3 Bullet connectors, Factory stuff is so nice. The Stereo remote is the Sony RMX55M, and we have the cable too. A holesaw will get this done, Sony units never had any problems I ever heard of, IE bulletproof. The only care needed is in tiewrapping the extension cable so it can't rattle. BTW we do Eliminator as well and so are familiar with your boat. Want a Whipple? :-) All joking aside, call 1 877 419 6464 during CST business hours and we can get it done. Ask for Marty or, as a last resort, Jim. Shipping ought to be reasonable. This is not an advertisement just trying to help get it done ASAP. |

Will probably get the switch from you though, just would like a pic of it to see what i'm getting before buying. -Ryan |

I attached a JPEG of an identical switch, the sticker has orange WARNING with black lettering.Apparently this picture is black and white. Right, this Sony unit is chrome/black/silver and not white. |
