Default OK guys, the motors are out.......

the motors are out (for a repower and a bilge re do), the drives are off, the boat is 18 yrs old........should I take the gimble housings off and reseal?? how hard is that to do??......anything else you would do while its all apart?? twin 350/alpha 1s

if your that far along..go for it..its not that hard, givin the age I wiould pull everything off the transom and reseal..an ounce of prevention prevents a ton of girnding, itching ,scatching and money in the future. I redid a transom once..notice I said once, wasnt what I would call fun.

The tranon to transom assembly doesn't leak too often.
I would check for any play in the upper/lower swivel pins. It's probably worth the effort to replace the upper pin seals and bearing since these are the most problematic.
