what SBC head to run?
I have a SBC in my boat, it is a Chris Craft 245 Limited, I have a balanced and forged roller shortblock, now with 9.5:1 with 64 CC heads, GM cam ZZ( (112LCA INT.212 EXH .226 Lift is .483/.520 I have dart sprtsman200 heads with a 200CC intake runner, performer intake, and 650 holley, I am thinking my heads are killing the torque, I got them cheap so I thought I would try them, I was thinking going with a 170-180CC intake runner, does that sound good with the cam I have?
what kind of small block combos are people running? |
Here's mine....
355ci Eagle 4340 3.480" crank, forged I beams and TRW L2304 forged pistons, rotating assembly balanced very well. 1980-85 4 bolt block align honed, decked .020", bored .030" Melling M55A HO oil pump, Moroso 7qt oil pan w windge tray. Edelbrock Performer RPM intake AFR 190cc aluminum heads 74cc 10.0-1 SCR, .039 quench, 2.02I, 1.60E, Flow 261cfm @ .500 with strong midlift flow numbers Morel Retrofit Roller lifters 224/230 .537/.511 112LSA 110ICL roller cam Crane 1.6 roller rockers on I, Lunati 1.52 rollers on E Holley 4150 750CFM carb Smith Bros .083" wall 1 piece pushrods Glenwood Marine HP aluminum manifolds w FastGlass 4" stainless smooth long risers that are 16" long. Almost a dry system as water hits the exhaust 3" before it leaves the tips. No Reversion The 200cc's ports you currently have are a tad big for a 350. A high velocity 180cc port would work better but that's alot of $$ for what gain I cannot say. Keeping the larger port is just going to need to be spun up higher. 5500+ rpms. I like the AFR 190cc's, they flow great and make awesome power. The new Eliminators are even better than mine. http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/2...s107cm1.th.jpg http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/5...1075jy2.th.jpg http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/7...1077oi8.th.jpg |

I have AFR 180 Elimators. I purchased these heads at the recomendation of RM Builder. He is also grinding a cam to match the combo. The new 180 eliminators outlflow the old 190s, the small port should produce high velocity and great torque. I will tell you how it turns out once I get it together. They are going on a 383 w/ 6inch rods.

383 with:
Dart iron Eagle 200, 72cc. Forged flat tops crane 284H (228@050), .480 lift w /1.5 rockers 1.6 comp cams stainless rollers Brodix dual plane bG 750 mech secondaries 10.2:1 comp Rhodes lifters Revolution exhaust. This motor pulls better than a 454 Mag. Seat o' pants dyno (semi educated guess is a bit above 400 HP in boat. Instead of spending money on new heads, get that thing stroked! Then the heads would be perfect. |
