I bet lawyers have something to do with it...
1. They sell a lot of boats 2. Their parent company ( Brunswick) has deep pockets 3. Most of their customers come from non stepped hull boats, and don't know the handling difference between the two, which could lead to problems.....and lawsuits:eek: |

There's the correct answer.

What's the upside for Baja were they to invest in developing a stepped hull version? |

Griff,
Thanks for the correction, Didn't mean to pass along bad information. I'm a big fan of the Checkmate look. I have owned 2, sold them both because of the ride. Speed |
Step hulls aren't for sissies.

I knew someone had to get the ONE that didn’t ride like a bucking bronco……
just kidding, I tried adding trim tabs, (helped a little) called the factory and tried a few more things. Got it to where it was ok with a light load of gas and only one or two people in the boat. Ran out of things to try and a few people I talked to said that is the way Checkmates are designed to ride. I still believe there was something wrong with the set up. This was a few years ago (before I was a member here) with everyone’s knowledge here I think someone could have helped me find the problem and I would still have the boat. Have you seen the pics of the new Checkmates! (see the checkmate forum) Maybe it is time to try a another one. Speed |

1.-All Baja are junk, its a miracle they even float. 2.They are mass produced cookie cutter boats,I can't believe there not imported from a factory in China 3.They are definately Sissy boats,as soon as I climb in mine I get a urge to put on a wig and lip stick.:p 4. Any Baja owner with any sense would never take his boat further from shore than what he's capable of swimming because at any moment the hulls probably going to fall apart and sink because of the subpar construction. 5. If I had any sense of what a "good" boat was I'd tow my Baja out back and let a family of cats breed in it:D |
