Ok. Just took out the pickup sensor under the rotor button in the distributor. The piece of metal that I assume hits the fins on the bottom of the button (or it once was) is now a complete piece of rust.
What are the odds this is causing the root cause of my ignition/spark/rpm fluctuations? Obviously even if it isn't I have to replace it. Should be a standard part at Napa.
Tell me it's over
Crossing fingers till tomorrow,
Bill

txt me when you're going to be ready.
I was getting some camp wood together and didn't here my phone. Next time forget the formalities and bring it over. I've always got time to wrench on a hotboat especially if it's not mine. Come over tom. I should be home early again. Gotta get the Rhino back together. And yeh that was the day before you put on the show!

Hey Baja Boy, here's some Napa numbers, they'll stare at the book for 15 minutes and tell you they have no listing for these.
ign. module: 18-5106
Pick-up coil: 18-5108 this is the piece inside the dist.

how the hell you get those so fast? i have learned that it's much easier to give them the mercruiser number at least for them to cross reference...or reference it myself on google. Otherwise you're right....they stare at the book for an eternity.
Do i gotta take the godamn distributor out to get the pickup sensor out? So I might be needing you and your timing light after all. I should be home around noon.
I ended up taking a nap after i txt'd you. I was beat.

And the pickup sensor is part# 18-5116.
Are you trying to make today more irritating than yesterday?

No dice.
Question....rather than looking at the spark, is it possible i'm not getting enough fuel to the port side of the engine? What could cause something like that? It looks to be a stock intake manifold and carburator. Could I really be getting gas to one side but not or not as much gas to the other side?
