Mechanical Indicator Cables - How much indication slop?
I've got twin mechanical indicators with the standard red 33c(?) cables. I just installed new livorsi outdrive top mounts for the cables so to reverse the direction of the dash indicators.
Had the wife take the drives up and down so I could do final tweeking at full up and full down on the indicators. I had her uneven the drives a bit and then try to hone them in indicator marking #4. When she said they were both at 4 on the dash, my drives were a bit off from one another. Did this test several times and even though at full up and full down they read the same, it appears that there is some slop within the cables themselves which doesn't allow for exact readings at the dash.
Is this normal? With the cables disconnected at both ends, the cables move freely when moving by hand.
Thanks for your comments in advance!

EC,
The last boat I owned had Stainless Marine no slack indicators (I think thats who made them). They for the most part very accurate. I did not install them they were on the boat when purchased so I do know know the details on any adjustments etc.
