assumming your baseline is a box stock , 502 mag mpi at about 425 hp....
1) is there an aluminum block that you could essentially swap into it and save serious weight ? i am talking an apples to apples swap... NOT a dart or merlin or aftermarket...
2) is it reasonable to think that you could configure one of these all aluminum crate engines to marine trim and save serious weight again ?
does anyone know as a matter of fact, what a dressed 502 iron vs a all al version would weigh ?
seems to me if you were running full closed cooling it would live just fine....

Big money. You can sve about 150 lbs but the upcharge is about 4000.00 more than an iron block. Chevrolet does or did make an aluminum block but it's not the same as your block. Aftermarket is the way to go with Donovan leading as far as quality. Brodix and Dart make good ones also. More cost effective are aluminum heads with better flow as well as 75lbs a pair less weight, lightweight exhaust, loose the water circulating pump and use a crossover.
