Help with motor selection!
So I've been doing some planning on what motors im going to put into my 32 hustler. I would like some input from you guys and please correct me if my rationing is wrong. I have been comparing the new 383 and 496 mags. When playing with the speed calculator I noticed something I didn't really expect. There was only 1 mph difference between the two! I don't know the exact weight of my boat but using the info I knew about it. (carbed 454's (300bhp) that came in the boat stock pushed it to 70mph.) I used the calculator to find a weight of 6199lbs. With the estimated weight the same and keeping the constant of 225 the same I bumped the power to 750bhp from the 496's and got 78mph. But when I shaved off 266lbs and replaced 750bhp with the 383's output of 700bhp things got interesting....77MPH! I take the actual MPH numbers with a grain of salt but figured the way I used the calculator the weight/speed predictions between the two engines should be about right. What do you guys think? If this is even remotely accurate between being lighter weight, better MPG, good speed, and being more cost efficient engine the 383 looks like the winner. I know the 383's wont have the off the line grunt the 496's would but I have trs drives and I dont want to upgrade right away so drags aren't a big concern for me. (Forced induction is always a future option when I upgrade to Konrads.)
Am I being mislead or could this be about right?
(I used the calculator on Bam Marines website)

I can tell you this. That 383 from mercruiser is a good deal and it would power your boat real nice. ! If you really want to $$ go with the 496's but if it were me I'd go with the 383's.
By the way if you happen to need a TRS drive I have a RH 1.50 rebuilt approx 30-40 hours ago that I'll let go cheap.
