Belt is slipping. A slight amount is normal but alot is not. make sure the tensioner is working and maybe go a size/brand smaller.

Improperly aligned pulleys will cause excessive belt dust.

I have a 502 MPI with a serpentine belt, dose that matter.

No, it doesn't matter. I've had a lot of dust with both a 2000 454 & 2000 502 Mag. My current motor (the 502) wasn't too bad until I, not being able to leave things alone, tightened the belt and now it's a lot worse. The belt's tension was fine, I'm going to loosen it slightly to where it was.

rusted pulleys, alignment, to tight or to loose. also belt dressing
