Can I keep my 496HO from starting?
Ok, now to explain myself ...
Basically, I'm trying to figure out how to crank the motors without them actually starting so that the oil filters can fill up after an oil change. Ideally, it wouldn't throw any codes either. Any ideas?
I've already consider pre filling the filters, but I think this would be a real challenge on the 496 since the oil filter openings face down.

Pull your coil wire. I don't know about the code though. I think it would be better just to start the engine as the oil pump needs RPMS to make pressure and circulate the oil. If you are that worried put a Pre-oiler on your engines.

Just jump the solenoid. You can use a screwdriver or buy a cheap starter button from the auto parts store. I have a very good one from Snap On but for what you are doing a $10 one from Autozone will do the trick. Just hook it to the two main posts on the solenoid and push the button. Eddie

I changed oil last week. Also have "upside down" filter mount. Filled filters 3/4 full, oil soaks thru filter sides and seems to stay there. Flipped over for upside down install, and did not have a mess!
Also prior to taking old filters off, I punched hole in top w/ nail, which I think helped oil to drain down before take off.

Kill switch. However, this is unnecessary on an oil change. just put the new filters on dry and start it up. You will get oil pressure almost immediately. I've never heard so much as a tick or knock.

Scz3ad- The 496 has a coil for each plug
I agree with Griff, having low oil pressure for 5 Seconds is not a big deal. If you ran the engine before the change you will have more oil on the surfaces than if you had not ran the engine for a few weeks without an oil change. What do you do for spring start up?
If you really insist you have a few options.
- If you have a tether engage it, engine should turn without starting.
- pinch off rubber fuel line and run engine out of fuel before oil change, then turn over with no fuel
-Disable Ignition control module (box with wires that lead to coils) This is what your tether shuts off
-unplug the crank sensor- will throw a code

There is no real difference between turning the engine over without firing it and just starting it normally when it comes to circulating the oil. The same parts are moving whether its actually firing or not, just at a slower speed. It will also have to turned over longer at the slower speed to circulate the same amount of oil.
Its also hard on the starter to crank it for very long.
