I think the rubber valve is a one way? Just lets air in.

Also heard it was the same rubber as in a Holley pump squirter housing

I had a buddy that didnt take the cap off will filling thedrive with a pump and split the bottle.

The B-Max drive leave out the rubber valve,so its vented, want build any pressure.

Hay Rob,
In your pics, are those the old style Merc bottles? I thought they didn't sell those anymore. Is someone else making that exact size and style? I would like to get my hands on one of those. I had two of mine crack up the sides.

They are about 2 qts,Bigger, he said the same company that made them for Merc he had them make some for him[B-Max} its made the same way as the old ones.

Being vented and synthetic oil we only put about 1/2 inch in the bottom .The Amsoil chemist on the board said its not foaming or airaiting, he had a different name for itSame thing to me.Thats why they have a dry sump tank on a dry sump motor The oil rises when ya run it hard about 3-4 inches. They say when ya run the sh!t out of it it rises a good bit more. Here is what I went to. I messed up and didnt get them made big enough,Roy at Get Real made them.I put this fitting in the top,ran to a puke tank below so oil want blow all over the motor, It makes a hell of a mess

The pick with the oil in it has some running time on it and a pass, so its foamed/areaited a little

I had one with a hairline crack and replaced it. The bummer is I didn't realize it was leaking at first and it took me about 4 bottles of simple green to get everything cleaned up again.

Mine does basically the same thing, but best I remember my nut on the bottom is black plastic instead of aluminum. I can run my fingers on the wires under the bottle and get some lube on them, but it never has actually ever dripped..

They can't be one way, how would the container accept the expansion when drive is hot? Mine expands over 1 inch in height under high load. I've filled my drive with the bottle closed for twelve years now, no cracks.....

I think what happens is on hot days while running some pressure builds in the bottle and the gear lube is thinner and slowly drips out the bottom. From my test it takes very little pressure to start leaking.

Thanks everyone for the comments. I guess right now I am leaning towards trying to seal what I have with a high quality epoxy since I am not confident the OEM replacement won't simply do the same thing. This is a design flaw or manufacturing defect from Mercury which they may or may not have addressed.
I've sealed them before with a hairline crack at the bottom just at the hole where the fitting goes through. I JB welded the fitting and inside bottom of the bottle together as well as coating the entire inside bottom of the bottle. Worked great! Also, replace the stock plastic type hose clamp with a worm gear stainless steel one. That may be your problem as well. I've seen both.
