Who is the extended warranty through?

You would think that Mercury would put a product on the engine (CMI's) that would last as long as the warranty..... :(

Lostinboston, I feel for you, I just got my boat back in August after having to rebuild a 525 from a CMI header failure and the NEW header failed in 4 hours destroying another engine! CMI says they will NOT warranty anything. I am going to send a letter to the CEO of Brunswick. I suggest the same.

I hate reading all this on the CMI issues.
While looking for a new boat with 500's or 525's now I'm scared $hiteless. I have to re-think this. :) |

This is an interesting post because I have been looking at boats with 500efis and 525s. Dont both use the same header and what are some signs to look for to spot problems? Is it a certin cylinder. Thanks for the help.

Quinlan When I buy a car from GM, the exhaust system attached to the engine is warrantied with the car... If Merc. is truely doing this they need to spend more R&D on exhaust systems that LAST.... |

I pressure check my headers EVERY year once I winterize the engines. This year I found 5 tiny leaks out of the 4 headers.... Gotta check them on a regular basis....
What did you or are you going to do about the leaks you found. I have twin 500 efi's with 250 hrs on them and they run fine but this CMI leak thing makes me nervous. |
